Software Engineer

Role Overview: The Scientist, Chief Engineer – Mission Payloads (Space Optical Systems) is responsible for leading the design, development, integration, testing, and delivery of space-based remote sensing systems, specializing in space optical payloads.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead requirements traceability, test plan development, and technical analysis
  • Manage specifications and generate technical documents for design reviews
  • Oversee integration, testing, and verification of electro-optical/infrared hardware and software systems
  • Support data analysis, modeling, and simulation activities
  • Evaluate customer needs to define system performance requirements and ensure interface compatibility
  • Assess and mitigate program risks, mentor engineering teams, and contribute to proposals
  • Participate in program planning and execution

Qualifications & Skills:
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering with 12+ years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with 10+ years, or 16+ years of experience without a degree
  • Active Secret security clearance
  • Extensive experience in systems engineering, space payload or vehicle systems, and technical leadership
  • Proficiency in technical analysis, specifications management, and technical documentation
  • Experience leading product testing, verification, and requirements approval processes

Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with laser or focal plane array subsystems and remote sensing technologies
  • Expertise in electro-optical hardware, space program lifecycle management, and requirements management tools
  • Strong communication, cross-functional collaboration, and project management capabilities
  • Ability to lead technical reviews and manage multiple priorities
